Farmer for the Day Tour Educational Objectives:
Let your students step into the boots of a real farmer in this interactive, hands-on adventure designed for young learners! During the Farmer for the Day Tour, children experience a variety of “farm jobs” through fun and engaging learning stations around Patterson Farm. As they “work” their way through the farm, students gather pretend farm goods to “sell” at our Farmer’s Market—and get rewarded with a Patterson Farm Buck redeemable for ice cream or water from our Market!

Aligned with early elementary curriculum standards, this tour builds foundational knowledge in agriculture, science, and the importance of community roles—while sparking imagination and play.

Tour Includes:

  • Barn Theater Presentation:
Choose to watch the video on the farm or ahead of time in your classroom to allow more farm play!
  • Interactive Learning Stations:
    • The Barnyard: Visit and learn about our farm animals
    • The Insect Garden: Are insects friends or foes?
    • The Bee Barn: Discover the importance of pollinators
    • The Vegetable Garden: Where food begins
    • The Apple Orchard: Learn how apples grow
    • The Dairy Barn: Milk and beyond
    • The Chicken Coop: From egg to chicken
    • The Planting Shed: Learn about the parts of a plant
    • The Farmer’s Market: “Sell” your gathered goods and earn a Farm Buck which is redeemable for one scoop of ice cream (strawberry, chocolate, or vanilla)
  • Activity Book: One per student

Teacher Resources:

  • Pre- and post-tour activity ideas, classroom extensions
  • Classroom Garden
  • Hands-on activity for students to complete in the classroom after their visit to the farm to reinforce lessons learned

All tours include access to Pawpaw Carl’s Playground, our expanded Agmagination*** and Picnic Area. Participants are welcome to visit these areas prior to or after their tour.

Additional Tour Add Ons:

  • Treasure Mine Mix: $6.49 + tax per person
  • Snack size Kettle Corn: $2.99 + tax
